Are ovaries removed during hysterectomy for adenomyosis?

Surgerypelvicabdominalsystemic

Adenomyosis is a condition of the uterus, so a hysterectomy can treat the source of the disease without automatically removing the ovaries. In many cases, we aim to preserve the ovaries to maintain natural hormone production and avoid surgical menopause, especially in younger patients.

Ovary removal may be considered if there’s a separate reason—such as concerning ovarian findings, significant ovarian disease, or a surgical plan tailored to your overall risk factors and symptoms. If endometriosis is also present, we often address it at the same time so pain isn’t mistakenly attributed to the uterus alone. Our team will review your history, imaging, and goals in detail and outline what we recommend for your specific case before surgery.
