Common Questions, Clear Answers
Common Questions from New Patients
Here are quick, clear answers to the questions we hear most often when patients are considering care at Lotus Endometriosis Institute.
Do you charge for a consultation?
No. Telehealth consultations are informational and free, and they’re scheduled only after an initial review to make sure a consultation will be meaningful for you. More information about this can be found in our new patients guide.
What happens before my consult is scheduled?
Before scheduling, our team performs a preliminary review of your symptoms and available medical records. If your case appears appropriate for care at Lotus Endometriosis Institute, they then proceed with the consultation process and next steps.
You’re out of network? Does that automatically mean I’ll pay everything?
No. Being out of network does not automatically mean you will be responsible for the full cost of care. Coverage depends on your individual plan and clinical circumstances, and our team helps patients understand their options and navigate insurer processes when appropriate. We discuss this in depth in our new patients guide.
What makes Lotus Endometriosis Institute different from a surgery-only practice?
Care at Lotus is built around an integrated model that combines advanced excision surgery with board-certified integrative medicine across the peri-operative timeline, supporting patients before surgery, through recovery, and beyond. We don't just treat the disease, we help you heal as a whole.
Dr. Vasilev is a gynecologic oncologist, doesn’t that mean he mainly treats cancer?
No. His gynecologic oncology fellowship/background and over three decades of MIGS experience means he has surgical training in complex pelvic anatomy and difficult operative situations, such as recurrence. That advanced skill-set translates directly to endometriosis surgical care from the simple to the highly complex. It means greater ability to work safely around the ureters, bowel, bladder, nerves, and major blood vessels, better judgment in dense scarred tissue, and more capacity to manage unexpected findings during surgery. His current practice is focused entirely on endometriosis and adenomyosis, not gynecologic cancer treatment.

Why Santa Monica + Who We Serve
Serving patients throughout Los Angeles and Southern California
Santa Monica is the Los Angeles–area location for patients who want access to in-person coordination when helpful (exam, pre-op planning, and follow-up), with telehealth available to keep care efficient.
Patients commonly choose Santa Monica if they:
- Live in Los Angeles County (e.g., Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Culver City, Pasadena, Long Beach, and nearby communities in the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys)
- Live in greater Southern California (Ventura County, Orange County, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and surrounding regions)
- Are traveling in from out of state via plane and want close proximity to multiple major airports: LAX, BUR, LGB, SNA
Many patients start with a virtual consultation, then travel only when an in-person visit or a surgical date is scheduled. When needed, we’ll help you plan a practical sequence so appointments are coordinated efficiently.
