Is IVF better than IUI or timed intercourse with adenomyosis?

An illustrative collage of elements depicting fertility.

With adenomyosis, IVF is often favored over IUI or timed intercourse when the disease is moderate to severe or when pregnancy hasn’t occurred despite well-timed attempts. In these situations, IVF can be paired with a frozen embryo transfer strategy, which gives us more control over preparing the uterine environment before transfer compared with approaches that rely on the cycle’s natural timing.

That said, IVF isn’t automatically the best first step for everyone. People who are younger with mild or focal adenomyosis may still conceive with timed intercourse or IUI, depending on overall fertility factors. The right plan is highly individualized and usually depends on your age, symptom severity, and what we see on imaging such as ultrasound or MRI—reach out to schedule a consultation so our team can review your findings and help map out a clear next step.
