Will hormonal birth control stop endo belly?

Topic:Symptoms
Affected areas:abdominalpelvicbowel

Hormonal birth control can calm cycle-driven hormone shifts, which may reduce the inflammatory flares that contribute to “endo belly.” For some patients—especially those whose distension reliably worsens around ovulation or before a period—this can mean fewer or less intense bloating episodes.

That said, hormonal therapy doesn’t remove endometriosis or address every cause of abdominal distension. Persistent bloating can also be driven by adhesions, bowel involvement, or muscle and nerve dysfunction in the pelvis, so symptoms may continue even on continuous pills, a patch, ring, or a progestin-only method. If you’re noticing only partial relief, or your “endo belly” is worsening despite hormonal suppression, our team can help you sort out what’s driving it and discuss next-step options—including whether surgery or a broader pelvic evaluation makes sense for you.
