Is laparoscopy useful for adenomyosis?
Laparoscopy usually isn’t helpful for diagnosing adenomyosis because the condition is within the uterine muscle and often can’t be seen from the outside during surgery. In most cases, adenomyosis is best evaluated with a high-quality transvaginal ultrasound or MRI interpreted by clinicians experienced with this diagnosis.
That said, laparoscopy can be very useful when we’re treating symptoms and planning surgery—especially if there’s also concern for conditions like endometriosis or other pelvic pathology that can be addressed at the same time. Depending on your symptoms, uterine size, and fertility goals, surgical options may include laparoscopic hysterectomy or, in carefully selected cases, uterus-sparing approaches. If you’re trying to understand whether surgery fits your situation, our team can review your imaging, symptoms, and priorities and help you map out the most appropriate plan.
