What happens at your first pelvic floor PT appointment?

Topic:General
Affected areas:pelvicbowelbladder

At your first pelvic floor physical therapy visit, we’ll start by listening carefully to your story—your symptoms, triggers, prior treatments, and goals—so we can connect the dots and understand what may be driving your pain or dysfunction. We’ll also discuss how your symptoms show up in daily life, including bowel, bladder, sexual, and movement concerns when relevant.

Your therapist typically assesses posture, breathing patterns, abdominal and hip function, and pelvic floor muscle coordination. An internal pelvic exam is never automatic: it’s optional, performed only with your clear consent, and can be modified or skipped entirely based on comfort. You’ll leave with an individualized plan and a simple home program designed to start helping right away, and you can reach out to our team anytime to schedule and ask questions about what to expect.
