You are seeking a diagnosis
Why can imaging look normal when symptoms are severe?
Imaging can look “normal” even when symptoms are intense because many pain-generating conditions don’t reliably show up on ultrasound, CT, or MRI. Some disease can be superficial, small, or located in areas that are difficult to visualize, yet still irritate nerves and surrounding tissues and cause significant symptoms.
Imaging is one piece of the diagnostic puzzle—not a definitive yes-or-no test for why you hurt. In our practice, we focus on your full symptom pattern and history and use imaging as supportive information, not as a way to dismiss symptoms when the scan is unremarkable. If you’re being told everything is fine despite severe pain, our team can help evaluate what may be driving your symptoms and discuss next steps, including whether surgical evaluation is appropriate.
