What tests evaluate urinary symptoms in endometriosis?

Topic:Diagnosis
Affected areas:bladderpelvicabdominal

We usually start by checking for common, treatable causes that can mimic endometriosis-related urinary symptoms, using a urinalysis and often a urine culture. Depending on your symptoms, we may also use a renal and bladder ultrasound to look for issues like stones, urinary retention, or signs of ureteral blockage—especially when protecting kidney function is a concern.

If we suspect deeper disease involving or compressing the bladder or ureters, pelvic MRI can help map where endometriosis may be affecting the urinary tract and guide next steps. Cystoscopy isn’t always necessary, but it can be helpful when there’s unexplained blood in the urine or persistent bladder pain and other testing hasn’t clarified the cause. If you’re dealing with urinary symptoms alongside suspected or known endometriosis, our team can help you choose the most appropriate workup and interpret what the results mean for treatment planning.
