How does pelvic floor physical therapy help pain?

Topic:Symptoms
Affected areas:pelvicbladderbowel

Pelvic floor physical therapy helps by addressing the muscles and connective tissues that can amplify pelvic pain. When these muscles are tight, guarded, or overactive, they can create trigger points and referral pain that feels like pelvic, bladder, bowel, or sexual pain.

It also focuses on retraining coordination—helping the pelvic floor relax and engage at the right times—so everyday activities like sitting, urinating, having a bowel movement, or intercourse are less likely to trigger symptoms. In our practice, we often see pelvic floor PT as a valuable part of a comprehensive plan, especially when pain has been persistent or flares around cycles. If you’re not sure whether pelvic floor dysfunction may be contributing to your symptoms, our team can help you sort that out and guide next steps.
