Can imaging detect diaphragm or chest endometriosis?

Topic:Deep Disease
Affected areas:chestabdominalpelvic

Sometimes imaging can suggest endometriosis on the diaphragm or in the chest, but normal imaging doesn’t rule it out. Ultrasound is strong for many pelvic findings yet often can’t visualize diaphragm disease well, and even MRI can miss lesions—especially smaller, superficial, or thin implants.

Even when it doesn’t “show” endometriosis directly, imaging can still be useful to map other potential causes of chest symptoms and to support surgical planning when suspicion is high. If you have cyclic chest pain, shoulder pain, or shortness of breath that tracks with your period, our team will weigh your symptom pattern alongside imaging and exam findings to guide next steps—please reach out to schedule a consultation.
