Do endometriosis symptoms improve during pregnancy?

Topic:Fertility
Affected areas:pelvicbowelbladder

Many patients notice their endometriosis symptoms lessen during pregnancy, often as the pregnancy progresses and hormones shift, and some feel the most relief by the second trimester. That said, pregnancy doesn’t “cure” endometriosis, and it’s also normal for pain to persist—especially pelvic pain or symptoms tied to the bowel, bladder, or nerves.

We also take new or escalating pain seriously in pregnancy, because it isn’t always from endometriosis. Severe one-sided pain, sudden intense pain that could suggest an ovarian cyst issue, bowel obstruction-type symptoms, or trouble urinating can signal problems like torsion, rupture, or obstruction and should be evaluated urgently. If you’re pregnant and unsure what your symptoms mean, reach out to our team so we can help you sort out what’s expected versus what needs prompt care.
