Do I need imaging or special prep before endometriosis excision?

Surgerypelvicabdominalbowel

In many cases, yes—specialized preoperative imaging helps us plan excision surgery more safely and thoroughly. A targeted transvaginal ultrasound and/or pelvic MRI can help map endometriomas and deeper nodules, as well as show when organs may be tethered or displaced, which can change the surgical approach.

Pre-op preparation depends on what we see on imaging and your symptoms. Some patients may need additional steps such as bowel preparation or temporary ureteral stents when there’s concern for bowel or ureter involvement. During a consultation, our team reviews your prior scans, determines whether more targeted imaging is needed, and walks you through any prep that applies to your specific case.
