You suspect you may have endometriosis or adenomyosis
Is bleeding after sex a symptom of endometriosis?
Bleeding after sex isn’t something we consider “normal,” even if you have suspected or confirmed endometriosis. Some people with endometriosis do notice post‑coital spotting, especially when sex triggers pelvic inflammation, uterine/cervical irritation, or deeper pain from adhesions and sensitivity in the upper vagina and cervix. That said, bleeding after sex can also come from other causes—like cervical changes, vaginal dryness/fragility, infections, polyps, or other uterine/cervical conditions—so it’s a clue that deserves a thoughtful workup rather than an assumption that it’s “just endometriosis.”
In our evaluation process, we look at the full pattern: whether bleeding happens with deep penetration or orgasm, whether it clusters around your cycle, and whether it comes with deep dyspareunia, pelvic pain after sex, bowel/bladder symptoms, or abnormal periods. We also consider conditions that can coexist with endometriosis (including adenomyosis) and use exam plus carefully selected imaging when helpful to clarify what’s driving the bleeding. If this is happening to you, explore our education on sex-related endometriosis pain and reach out to schedule a consultation—our team can help connect the dots and build a plan aimed at lasting relief.
